    Having a good sense of design is important in looking for web designers. There is a lot more to it than simply knowing which colors you like. You should be aware of these as well as the basic design principles when picking the designer to do the job for you.

    Adding bright colors and balancing the graphic content won't hurt your design. It would actually boost it's appearance and pump up the quality.

    Balance the graphics and text on a page. It's easy to get carried away with lots of images and animations, but they can make a page very hard to read. When you're considering your layout, remember that images are a major part of the design, not just afterthoughts.

    Your designs should be optimized for the web and should not take more than 15 seconds to load. Remember, you might have a great design but very few people are going to see it if it takes a long time to load.

    Clearer, understandable content - using commonly used and understood words, phrasing and grammar will increase the likelihood that people using simple search-criteria will find your site.
